Teen-Powered Valiant High Debuts On ComiXology Today From Colbert Writer And Jughead Artist

by Staff

In an alternative continuity to the Valiant Universe, Valiant characters are re-imagined as teenagers today on comiXology, complete with teen angst and super powers. In an original digital series available only through comiXology, Daniel Kibblesmith, a writer for the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and of Heavy Metal’s recent Doorman series with Eliot Rahal, Derek Charm, who is known for his work on Archie’s current Jughead comic, as well as Power Puff Girls, and David Baron of Bloodshot Reborn, create a new world of possibilities for our Valiant heroes in Valiant High.

The comic is priced at $3.99 for customers and is free for subscribers to ComiXology Unlimited and is part of an Originals incentive launched in 2016 by ComiXology with several partner publishers, but this is actually the first miniseries to launch in the Originals program. This is the first issue of a four-part series that’s designed to be a “unique entry point” for those who may not be familiar with the Valiant Universe, and it is definitely a fun and whimsical place to start.

According to comiXology and Valiant:

Before they became legends, the world’s most formidable heroes were roaming the halls at Valiant High – a super-powered preparatory academy where Aric “X-O Manowar” Dacia is a record-setting running back, Colin “Ninjak” King is a debonair foreign exchange student, and Coach Bloodshot is way, way too into dodgeball. Now, Amanda “Livewire” McKee and her best friend, Faith “Zephyr” Herbert, are taking it all in for the first time at the one high school where power trumps popularity!

Some of the other characters you’ll see pop up in this comic include: Archer & Armstrong, the Death-Defying Dr. Mirage, the Eternal Warrior, Toyo Harada, Kris Hathaway, Peter Stanchek, Quantum and Woody, and more.

Valiant have shown in the past that they have a sense of humor about their characters, not just apparent in their more humor-driven comics, but also in their variant cover programs with things like “cat cosplay”, and in their development of characters like Bloodsquirt, Bloodshot’s cartoony drug-fuelled alter-ego.

Taking a look at this extensive preview of Valiant High #1, you can really get a sense of Kibblesmith, Charm, and Baron, in action creating this new and wacky reality:

ComiXology is also holding a 50% off sale on all Valiant Entertainment collections released prior to 1/1/2017 to coincide with Valiant High’s release. On comiXology and Kindle, Valiant High issues #2 – #4 will be available for pre-order today.
