WETA Workshop’s First Kickstarter, Funded In 4.5 Hours, Is For A Tabletop RPG

by Staff

Weta Workshop have launched their first ever Kickstarter campaign, and it’s on behalf of a tabletop RPG with Cryptozoic. The game, GKR: Heavy Hitters, hit its own funding goal in only 4.5 hours of the 30 days allotted. However, the campaign is still underway, so this is a chance for fans to take part and get the game.

The game is set in a “sports-crazy dystopian future of Giant Killer Robots”. Well sure, it is. Why not?

They say:

Strap in for the most epic smackdown this side of the megapocalypse. Gather your squad of Giant Killer Robots (GKRs), build your deck, and face your rivals in the ultimate fight for fame, fortune, and sweet salvage rights. Scheme, strategize and strong-arm your way to victory as you dominate the media landscape, one billboard at a time.

Essentially, you can play the game as one of four corporate factions:

And you get to pick your pilot, too:

The Kickstarter offers a number of tiers of rewards, ranging from extra cards to original artwork and retailer incentives. The amount of detail on the Kickstarter page, simply explaining every aspect of the game, is probably the most I’ve ever seen on a crowdfunding campaign. You’ll certainly know exactly what you’re getting before taking part. And most of all, it’s already funded so you know the game will now exist.

The campaign ends on Friday, March 24th, 2017.
