IDW has a close relationship with Hasbro, but this still isn’t announcement you would have seen coming–the popular and evergreen boardgame Clue (made even more legendary through the film starring Tim Curry) is coming to comic book form in a five issue series. Classic characters like Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, and Professor Plum will appear in the comics. Of course, this will be a mystery comic. How could it not be?
Greg Goldstein, IDW Publishing’s President and CCO says: “They are household names and have provided countless hours of entertainment for audiences across the globe. We are looking forward to building an intriguing new world with these characters.”
It’s great news that comedic writer Paul Allor (Guardians of the Galaxy, G.I. JOE) will be writing the series, and you might recognize artist Nelson Dániel‘s work on The Cape and Dungeons & Dragons as someone who handles a dark fantasy feel really well.
In the grand tradition of the Clue franchise, we’re crafting a fun, exciting and at times completely bonkers story that will keep people guessing until the very end! I truly can’t wait for comics readers to step into the mansion and find out just what we have in store for them.
IDW are also hinting that the series will have alternate endings so there’s a kind of “play” element in the way readers interact with the comic. And if you’re into variant covers, the variants covers for the series will include extra clues. The main cover artist will be Gabriel Rodriguez, according to IDW, a choice which is always a win.
The plot of the series is described thus: The new series opens after the doomed Mr. Boddy is murdered at his own dinner party and everyone is a suspect! Will Boddy’s body be the last to fall, or is it just the beginning? Readers will have to follow the clues to solve the mystery, which deepens even further as issue one will feature three alternate endings!
The first issue of the Clue comic will arrive in June.
