Everyone knows Mondo posters are beautiful and high-quality, but when you get amazing comic and poster talent involved, that just makes everyone’s day. Francesco Francavilla, whose work has recently been appearing in All-Star Batman, and who is a known movie poster fan of a hugely prolific nature, has created a Kong: Skull Island poster released today, March 10th, by Mondo in two different versions. Of course, many comics folks are big fans of the big ape, and the new film from Legendary is out now in theaters.
Francavilla says, regarding his own fandom in creating this poster:
I can safely say I am a life time fan of KING KONG. When I was offered the opportunity to draw the big ape on a poster for this new, badass edition, it really was a no brainer. We really wanted to play on the majesty, the gigantic size of Kong, so after a couple of layouts, I came up with him looming, reaching over the island – a little nod to the classic image of King King looming over NYC skyline. It helped that the movie has so much great visuals that I tried to implement in the layout.
Here’s a look at the two poster styles available from Mondo today:
[Kong: Skull Island by Francesco Francavilla. 24″x36″ screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 335. Printed by D&L Screenprinting. $60]
[Kong: Skull Island (Variant) by Francesco Francavilla. 24″x36″ screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 95. Printed by D&L Screenprinting. $85]
