Valiant’s X-O Manowar Epic Begins This Week On An Alien World – And Tomas Giorello’s Art Is Epic

by Staff

This is a big week for Valiant’s comics, with both their first ICONS incentive landing in the form of the first issue of the new ongoing X-O Manowar, and the Bloodshot Reborn #0 issue in shops, so make sure to check them both out.

X-O Manowar #1, written by Matt Kindt and drawn by Tomas Giorello, follows a strange new journey for Aric of Dacia as he has left earth and takes up a quiet agricultural life on an alien world, rejecting the armor he has worn and the violence that comes with it. But he cannot hide from the forces that shaped him forever, and when war comes knocking, he rises from Soldier, to General, to Emperor, to Visigoth as this ongoing series rolls forward.

This week, Aric is pressed into military service and we get a ground-level view of the lives of conscripted soldiers. And the artwork we see on this issue is so epic that it sets the tone for the whole ICONS approach this year–bringing the big Valiant heroes back for an ongoing series spotlight. But what we mean by epic when it comes to Giorello is that he knows the epic tradition in comics and illustration–and he brings all that richness and warmth to the art.

Here are our covers for issue #1 this week, by Lewis Larosa, Kenneth Rocafort, Tomas Giorello, Mico Suayan, J.G. Jones, and Monika Palosz:
