Dark Horse have announced a new spotlight art book on a significant comic artist’s work. You may have seen Michael Avon Oeming’s work in The Victories, Aleister & Adolph, Powers, Mice Templar and the current Young Animal DC series, Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye. Or any number of other places. His work is immediately recognizable for its use of angles, sharp inking, and emotive qualities.
According to Dark Horse, Oeming “never prepared for any way to make a living other than drawing”. Dark Horse will be publishing his very first art book, No Plan B: The Art of Michael Avon Oeming, arriving August 30, 2017. The book will include an introduction by Mike Mignola and an Afterword by David Mack.
No Plan B will give an in-depth look at Oeming’s artistic archives, his creative process, and his expansive thirty year career in comics so far. At 180 pages, this hardcover will also also include interviews with Oeming, and unpublished artwork from Powers, The Victories, and more. We’ll see glimpses of collaborations with Mike Mignola, Eric Powell, Kevin Smith, Douglas Rushkoff, Gerard Way, and video game developer Valve as well.
This book is an example of exactly how we should be celebrating the comic art achievements of major creators contributing to the industry right now, and a book featuring Michael Avon Oeming is a great place for comic lovers to start learning more about comic art.
