MoCCA Fest Debuts – Two Exquisite Corpses From Christa Cassano, Dean Haspiel, Josh Neufeld

Christa Cassano, Dean Haspiel, and Josh Neufeld will be exhibiting at the MoCCA Arts Festival this weekend from April 1st to 2nd at table A103B. They will be debuting two exciting comix exploring the “exquisite corpse theme”, creted in the tradition of Zap Comix and The Narrative Corpse. This is based on the principle of handing off comics between creators for each to devise an installment in the narrative.

Cadavre Exquis by Christa Cassano, an Eisner nominee and Yaddo fellow, shows her work in collaboration with seven other creators, collected as various exquisite corpses featuring “alien love trysts, existential angst, sex and death”.

Here’s a preview of some of the interior pages, firstly by Cassano, and lastly by Frank Reynoso:

Because of You, by Dean Haspiel and Josh Neufeld was created over a three-year period beginning in the summer of 2001.  It is an “unscripted, impromptu, dynamic dialogue” between Haspiel and Neufeld, that “plumbs unparalleled depths of agony and personal humiliation”. The comic’s protagonist, Lionel, wakes up one morning to an unpleasant surprise and from that point onward he faces “domestic crises, public transportation, the New York City streets, and his own hyperactive imagination”. All of the events in the comic take place in a single day.

Find all these works and more at table A103B this weekend at MoCCA Fest.
