Image Comics have announced a new “paranormal adventure” series Retcon, written by Matt Nixon (Wolverine) and drawn by Toby Cypress (The White Suits, Rodd Racer, Blue Estate), which they also tease will be “time hopping”. Cypress has been known in recent years for his nuanced artwork, full of mood and movement, as evidenced in his poster art as his sequential storytelling, and it’s great to see him on a new comic series.
In Retcon, we’ll follow a group of paranormal adventurers who, when “faced with an impossible threat” find they have to shut down “alternate timelines” in order to preserve the solar system from destruction. In a loop-like recurrence, they then find they have invented a similar problem on a parallel earth facing the same foe.
Writer Matt Nixon says:
Artist Toby Cypress and I set out to make Retcon a ‘craft’ comic book. We took our time and made sure from layout to panel design to colors and letters—every piece fits, nothing was rushed. We made the best book that we could, and we believe it will find its audience.
Artist Toby Cypress gives his take as: “Matt’s story is like David Lynch doing a few episodes of X-Files, it’s weird, over the top, and subtle all at once.”
Retcon #1 will arrive in stores this September 2017.
