This new game from IDW Games is certain to channel nostalgia and a taste for the retro, taking on classic science fiction imagery and themes. With Rayguns and Rocketships, currently funding on Kickstarter, you’ll get your jetpack, your raygun, and set out to pilot your rocketship to take on other players.
The game is designed by Scott Rogers, who worked on PC titles like God of War, Warhammer 40K, Darksiders, and Pac-Man World. Rayguns and Rocketships uses a “dual-scale system” which focuses on the big picture as well as the small details of the game. You can “preprogram your rocketship” to navigate around your opponents while setting up your raygun attacks.
A big draw is that the game contains 32 highly detailed miniatures “dripping with retro-style”, according to IDW. You’ll also be able to operate in standard player vs. player matches, or select an episode from the “Episode Book” and battle up to 3 friends at a time.
The game is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, well on its way toward its goal, and the campaign will run until May 9th.
