On Friday, June 16th, a website and social media presence sprang up announcing the debut of The Ringo Awards at Baltimore Comic Con, in an awards ceremony to be held on September 23rd, 2017. The Ringo Award winners will be determined by both comics professionals and fan voting and judged by a group of comics professionals. Previously The Harvey Awards were held in partnership with Baltimore Comic Con, but The Harvey Awards and their ceremony are moving into a partnership with ReedPOP instead.
Pros and fans who were disappointed that BCC would no longer be holding an award ceremony will be reassured to learn that a new industry award will be setting up shop at BCC.
The Ringo Awards are named after artist Mike Wieringo, who often signed his work “Ringo”, and is primarily known for his work on The Flash, The Fantastic Four, and Tellos.
Here’s what The Ringo Awards have to say:
The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is an annual celebration of the creativity, skill and fun of comics.
The awards make their debut this year as part of the fan- and pro-favorite convention, The Baltimore Comic-Con.
Unlike other professional industry awards, the Ringo Awards include fan participation in the nomination process along with an esteemed jury of comics professionals.
More than 20 categories will be celebrated with top honors being given at an awards ceremony Saturday, September 23, 2017.
The comic professionals who have been announced as judges of this year’s Ringo Awards are: Jon Haines, Jamar Nicholas, Chris Powell, and Jose Villarubia.
