With The Defenders a month or so away, news of Luke Cage‘s second season begins to emerge.
Today, Netflix announced Mustafa Shakir and Gabrielle Dennis have joined returning cast members like Mike Coulter and Alfre Woodard as John McIver and Tilda Johnson; known to Marvel Comics fans as Bushmaster and Nighthawk (or Nightshade from time to time).
“I can’t wait for audiences to see the compelling paces we put both Mustafa and Gabrielle through,” said showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker in a statement. “From the moment you see each of them on screen, I feel they will be powerful additions to the world of Marvel and Harlem’s Luke Cage.”
According to the press release (via Newsarama), McIver is described as “a natural leader, brimming with charisma, whose mission is focused on Harlem and vengeance.” Meanwhile, Johnson is said to be a “brilliant, holistic doctor with a complicated history in Harlem where, as much as she tries to stay far from trouble, it seems to always find her.” How their paths will cross with Luke Cage and Mariah Dillard is anyone’s guess.
Besides Coulter and Woodard, season one supporting castmembers Simone Missick, Rosario Dawson, and Theo Rossi will return as Misty Knight, Claire Temple and Shades, respectively. And considering how strong the supporting casts are on these Marvel Netflix show, it will be great to see them again.
Luke Cage returns for a second season in 2018.
