Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Blade Runner 2049 filled with glimpses of Denis Villenueve’s take on Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner world. It is, of course, beautiful.
But some interesting story details seem to fit through the cracks. Jared Leto claims to have the lock to the future, but “he” has the key. The editing would suggest “he” is Deckard. If he is a Replicant, perhaps the key is embedded in his longevity. At the same time, we also seem to get some detail about Rachel with a possible 2021 gravestone and Deckard scrambling records. Maybe the key is still with Rachel, who was different from the Nexus-7 models.
Whatever key Deckard might possess, it could lead to further tensions between man and android — Ridley Scott’s favorite topic of late — and perhaps a war. But rarely does this conflict look so good.
Blade Runner 2049 opens on October 6th.
