Elisa’s Routine Is Disrupted By Something Astounding In The Shape of Water Trailer

Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water and it looks both compelling and familiar.

A mute woman’s routine at a hidden high-security government lab is disrupted when she and her friend Zelda discover a humanoid amphibian creature lurking in one of the tanks. It’s part of a dubious research project. And though some of the program’s directors — including Michael Shannon — are skeptical, Elisa is sure she has a connection to the creature.

Evoking memories of The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Hellboy‘s Abe Sapien, del Toro’s new film looks exactly like the Cold War fairy tale he’s been promising. I’m definitely looking forward to this one. Starring Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones, The Shape of Water opens on December 9th.
