Rogue One’s Riz Ahmed Joins Venom; Sugar Lyn Beard Take Flash Role

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Actor Riz Ahmed may join the ranks of Sony’s Marvel Universe.

Variety reports that the actor is in early talks to join Tom Hardy in Sony’s Venom spinoff. The film will stand apart from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the current Spider-Man cycle, but sill feature Spider-Man characters Sony controls. According to the report, Ahmed will play a “popular” character from Spider-Man comics, but as I’ve never been a great fan of Peter Parker, I’d be hard-pressed to speculate on which character it might be. With the Shocker, Scorpion and the Vulture running around over in the MCU, it’s probably a good guess its none of those characters — although Marvel Studios and Fox did arrange to have two versions of Quicksilver on screen for Avengers: Age of Ultron and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Prior to Rogue One, Ahmed appeared in films like Nightcrawler and Four Lions. He also stared in the HBO miniseries The Night Of.

Meanwhile, in TV Land, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates‘ Sugar Lyn Beard will appear in an upcoming episode of The Flash as Hazard, an Infinity Inc. character that I have to admit I’ve never heard of. According to the character description (via Variety), she is “perpetually down-on her luck and is convinced her life is cursed — until a freak accident changes everything. With the universe on her side, she poses a threat to both Team Flash and Central City.” The Hazard of Infinity Inc. used psionic powers and “special dice” to bring about good or bad luck. She also joined a version of the Injustice Gang, which suggests the Thinker may build a new rogue’s gallery down the line.
