Black Cat and Silver Sable’s first feature film is now on Sony’s release schedule.
The film, titled Black and Silver, will see the two occasional Spider-Man allies getting into a Marvel Team-Up situation; which means they’ll probably fight before allying with one another. In the pages of Marvel Comics, Black Cat is an infamous jewel thief while Silver Sable is a mercenary who hunts down war criminals. That’s definitely a recipe for some misunderstandings.
Gina Prince-Bythewood will direct from a script currently being re-written from Thor: Ragnarok‘s Chris Yost. As with Sony’s upcoming Venom film, starring Tom Hardy in the title role, Black and Silver will be a standalone film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the current Spider-Man cycle.
Although, it is currently unclear if the film is also standalone from Venom.
Both projects have their origins in Sony’s plans to create Spider-man Cinematic Universe. As teased in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, this connected universe was meant to begin with a Secret Six film and The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The tepid response to the Andrew Garfield-starring sequel squelched those plans in favor of bringing Spidey and some of his associated characters to the MCU. But Sony also chose to go forward with development of the Venom and Black and Silver projects. Also, you can expect that Sinister Six film to happen is either of these flicks perform well.
An animated Spider-Man film, reportedly set to feature the Miles Morales Spider-Man, is also in development.
In the meantime, Black and Silver is set for a February 8th, 2019 release.
