Preview Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Mycroft Holmes And The Apocalypse Handbook From Titan Comics

by Oliver MacNamee

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar became a big Sherlock Holmes fan back in his days shooting hoops and has since turned out both a novel and a comic book mini-series around Sherlock’s older brother, Mycroft Holmes. And, it’s the comic book series that will be collected in the graphic novel this September from Titan Comics.

Mycroft Holmes and The Apocalypse Handbook is co-written with best-selling novelist Raymond Obstfeld (Joker and the Thief), artist Joshua Cassara (New Avengers, The Troop) and colorist Luis Guerrero (Doctor Who, Rivers of London, The Troop).

Mycroft Holmes and The Apocalypse Handbook sees the diffident, brilliant Mycroft pulled into a globe-spanning adventure at the behest of Queen Victoria and a secret organization at the heart of the British government. With a madman on the loose with civilization-destroying weapons, can the smartest man in England set aside his idle, womanizing ways for long enough to track down the foe that may be his match?

And, here’s 6 times NBA champion and its highest scorer Abdul-Jabbar’s take on Holmes’ older brother:

I envisioned him to be a witty and brave man with just a touch of con artist in him, like Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. The Mycroft in my comic book is brilliant, but also cynical, subversive, and an adventurer. He has more Deadpool in him than he does Sherlock.

And, here’s the funky trailer for the series too (just because I love the accompanying music):

Now, on with the preview!

Mycroft Holmes and The Apocalypse Handbook will be available on September 19th from Titan Comics priced at $16.99
