The new age of comic book crossovers has been nothing short of incredible. We’ve had notable team-ups between classic characters from a number of different publishers that have made my inner child jump for joy. Case in point: DC Entertainment, IDW Publishing, and Nickelodeon have announced a sequel to the amazing 2015 crossover series Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Beginning in December, writer James Tynion IV and artist Freddie Williams II reunite to smash these two icons of pop culture together.
The series picks up with Donatello searching for a new mentor to help him improve his fighting skills. When he opens up a doorway to another reality searching for Batman, he gets stuck in Gotham City and Bane makes his way to New York. A new gang boss in NYC is uniting all the bad guys under him. Donnie has to find Batman and get back to help the rest of the Ninja Turtles take down Bane.
DC SVP Editorial Strategy & Administration, Hank Kanalz says:
What DC and IDW started with Batman/TMNT in 2015 continues to spark interest with fans of these characters that have worldwide recognition. We can’t wait to see what James and Freddie deliver this time around.
IDW President and COO, Greg Goldstein adds:
The original crossover between Batman and the Turtles was met with such positive enthusiasm from the fans, that it was only a matter of time before their paths crossed again. Fans have themselves to thank for making this a reality, yet again, and we’re confident that we can deliver the goods to meet their expectations with our talented creative team returning for round two.
Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II begins on December 8th, 2017. You will only have to wait two weeks for the second issue to drop. Williams II will be providing covers for the book and TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman will illustrate variant covers.
