Netflix’s latest trailer for their upcoming Punisher series might be the best one yet. And that’s not just because of its inspired use of Metallica’s “One.”
I know the point was to reveal the series as the darkest collaboration between Marvel and Netflix thus far, but the net result was something far more giddy. At the same time, I imagine the show will maintain the overall feel of Frank Castle’s Daredevil appearances. Well, maybe with a few good quips thrown in.
In the series, Frank (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than just his family. Deborah Ann Woll joins him on the series as Karen Page, the Daily Bulletin reporter and, possibly, the only person Frank will listen to. And Ben Barnes takes the role of classic Punisher nemesis Jigsaw. This time, though, he’s presented as a friend from Frank’s days in Afghanistan. That can only lead to bad news for both.
The Punisher comes to Netflix on [REDACTED], 2017.
