Variety reports that Netflix has order a series based on Dennis Liu’s short film and comic book Dion.
The self-published comic — with art by Jason Piperberg — centers on Nicole, a woman whose 7 year old son, Dion, exhibits superpowers. He can turn invisible, generate plasma and has telekinetic abilities. To keep track of growing powers, Nicole enlists the help of a friend to film Dion at all times. Of course, a super-powered boy will eventually get noticed and Nicole notices she’s being tailed by shadowy men. Meanwhile, Dion’s powers take a sinister turn.
Liu released the first issue in 2015 and made a trailer to demonstrate the power within the premise.
Black Panther‘s Michael B. Jordan will serve as an executive producer on the project and make appearances as Dion’s late father.
“More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry,” Liu told the site. And looking at that trailer, there’s definitely the potential for a great superhero series. In fact, I wish I’d heard of this earlier.
Raising Dion will come to Netflix in the next year or so.
