My Friend Dahmer Trailer Reveals A Deadly Coming Of Age

FilmRise has released a trailer for their upcoming film, My Friend Dahmer (via Entertainment Weekly). Based on the graphic novel by Derf Backderf, it details some of his experiences with Jeffrey Dahmer during their junior high and high school years; leading up the day of Dahmer’s first murder. Backderf began telling parts of this story in 1994, finally releasing a 224-page graphic novel in 2012.

The trailer suggests a quirky coming-of-age drama if not for the infamy of its subject. Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer raped, murdered and dismembered seventeen men and boys. The sensational nature of his crimes received nationwide attention. Dahmer was beaten to death in prison in 1994, prompting Backderf to begin his empathetic memoir of the strange boy who would fake epileptic seizures for attention. It seems the film will also offer the serial killer an element of humanity with Disney Channel star Ross Lynch taking the role of Dahmer and The Naked Brothers Band‘s Alex Wolff playing Backderf.

My Friend Dahmer comes to theaters on November 3rd.
