NYCC ’17: Dynamite Expands Art Book Line With Tekken

by Hannah Means Shannon

Dynamite Entertainment announced during New York Comic Con that they’ll be publishing the next installment in their line of art books through a partnership with Bandai Namco. Tekken will be the subject of a hardcover retrospective in their Video Games Icons line to be released in 2018.

Tekken was originally released in 1994 as one of the first games to use 3D animation, and multiple sequels and spin-offs followed. Structured around the fictional King of Iron Fist Tournament as sponsored by the Mishima Zaibatsu corporation, Tekken tells the story of the Mishima ancestral curse, “pitting the series protagonist Jin Kazama against members of his villainous lineage, while incorporating the colorful stories and aspirations of a wide cast of additional fighters”.

The Tekken art book from Dynamite will feature in-depth interviews and exclusive, behind-the-scenes looks into the making of the games, as well as the art, design, and imagery from across the Tekken universe. The book is set to be “hundreds of pages in length”, with full color, high-res photographs and scans”.

Rich Young, Director of Business Development for Dynamite, says:

TEKKEN 3 is the one that got its hooks into me… when I really started appreciating how fun and brilliant of a fighting game series it was, with its own personality and crazy-awesome cast of characters,” says  “We’re now at TEKKEN 7 and the franchise is still going as strong as ever!  It’s an honor to be working with BANDAI NAMCO on this project, and to present this amazing retrospective to the dedicated and passionate fans worldwide!

The book will be available at major bookstore chains, online booksellers, and through Diamond for local comic shops in 2018.
