Everyone’s favorite Imperial middle manager may soon tussle with Captain Marvel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Ben Mendelsohn is in talks to appear in Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel. Brie Larson is set to star as the title character, Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who becomes an intergalactic hero when she is fused with alien DNA. The film will be Marvel Studios’s first female-led project. It will also be set in the 1990s and feature Samuel L. Jackson as a younger version of his Nick Fury character.
It is unclear who Mendelsohn will play, but artwork presented at Comic-Con International: San Diego back in July revealed Carol’s journey will take her to the stars. Perhaps Mendelsohn, already memorable for his villainous turn as Director Orson Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will once again wear the villains cap. Perhaps he’ll even be a member of the Kree race, reportedly set to feature heavily in the film. There is always the possibility he’ll be a sympathetic character as well, but considering his growing reputation as a baddie in tentpole releases, I doubt he’ll be on the side of the angels.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel is set for a March 8th, 2019 release.
