If you’re a trade waiter, mark your calendars for January 3rd, 2018 because that’s when the first volume of Mech Cadet Yu is scheduled for release from BOOM! Studios. The trade paperback will collect the first four issues of the stellar comic written by Greg Pak, illustrated by Takeshi Miyazawa, and colored by Triona Farrell.
It will be available exclusively at comic shops until May in a special edition called Discover Now and will have a limited print run, never to be reprinted.
Mech Cadet Yu follows a young janitor named Stanford Yu who is unexpectedly chosen to join the storied ranks of the Mech Cadets of the Sky Corps Academy. Once a year, giant robots from outer space come to Earth and bond with the cadets to defend the world from terrifying aliens called the Sharg. Stanford accidentally bonds with a robot that went off-course, throwing him into training to prove he is worthy to be there at all. It’s a great book that’s full of heart and adventure.
Filip Sablik, President of Publishing and Marketing at BOOM! Studios says:
Given the tremendous response to Mech Cadet Yu from retailers, fans and press, we’ve decided to release a collection of the series much earlier than usual. This Discover Now Edition of the collection will be available exclusively in comic shops for over four months. Not only is your local comic shop the only place you can get Mech Cadet Yu every month, but also the place to find the limited-edition version of the collection before a standard release.
The standard edition of Mech Cadet Yu: Volume 1 will feature a different cover and will be available elsewhere in May 2018. Both books will retail for $14.99. The Discover Now Edition will serve as a great jumping on point as issue #5 comes out the same day. Get them both and catch up on one of the best new series of the year.
