The CW Debuts First Photo Of Supergirl Opponent Reign

Shortly after the season two finale of Supergirl, fans have known that Kara (Melissa Benoist) would soon tussle with Reign, a new antagonist introduced in the pages of a fairly recent issue of the Supergirl comic book. We also knew by midsummer that Odette Annable would play the so-called Worldkiller. But in a twist for the show’s establish pattern, producers announced the character would receive an extended origin story before going rogue. Consequently, viewers have been unaware of the character’s supervillain appearance until now.

As spotted by Deadline, the CW has revealed Reign’s appearance in a first look photo, and it seems she’s taking some cues from The Lord of the Rings‘s Witch-King of Angmar:

In the story so far, Annable has been seen as a hard working single mother who, as we learned in the last episode, will watch over L Corp while Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) learns the ropes at CatCo. It is unclear when she will make her heel turn, though. Currently, the character is unaware of her Kryptonian roots. But one imagines we’ll see her become Reign before the winter break.

In the comics, Reign and the other Worldkillers were created by Kara’s father, Zor-El. Should that be true on the series, it would create a troubling doubt in Kara’s mind about her father. Not that she needs another thing to feel terrible about. Perhaps her holographic mother could help allay her fears. They brought that device over from the old DEO base outside of town, right?

Supergirl airs Mondays on The CW.
