James Franco Wants You To Love The Disaster Artist In New Trailer

by Erik Amaya

As a fan of cheesy movies, few are as important as The Room. It’s almost beyond cheese in a way that may be revealed in an upcoming Your Weekend Cheesy Movie. But the film — the mindcraft of the mysterious Tommy Wiseau — inspires people like few others. One such person is James Franco, who took Room costar Greg Sestero’s book, The Disaster Artist, and made it into a motion picture. Franco plays Wiseau, apparently directing the film in character. Which is hardly surprising. When one learns to do a good Wiseau performance, it’s hard to get out of that mode of thinking.

Nevertheless, Franco and A24 believe they have an Oscar contender on their hands and this trailer, the third for the film, definitely reflects its prospects as an award season hopeful. Which, I suppose, is what Wiseau always wanted, even if he had to take a weird route to get there.

The Disaster Artist opens in limited release on December 1st and wide on Decemebr 8th.
