While Star Wars Rebels is headed into a mid-season finale, Hera Syndulla heads for a showdown with Grand Admiral Thrawn in an episode they had to call “Rebel Assault.”
Of course, taking on Thrawn is never easy and Hera will have to use all of her wits to outthink the best strategist in the Empire.
Meanwhile, it’s surprising to think the series never made use of the title “Rebel Assault” before. It is a reference to a 1990s Star Wars video game that frustrated players as often as it thrilled. It begins with training in a T-16 and eventually leads to blaster-fights with Stormtroopers in very recognizable Star Wars locations. When I spoke to executive producer Dave Filoni a few weeks back, I mentioned my run-ins with TIE Defenders in Star Wars Battlefront and he noted fans who play Star Wars games get a “different” and “heightened” experience when key ships make their way onto Rebels. And as someone who had a tough time learning to fly Rebel Assault‘s T-16, it’s particularly funny to see the title referenced here.
Star Wars: Rebels airs Mondays on Disney XD and returns for a finale run of episodes early next year.
