While we still have the CW superheroes for a couple weeks, the winter hiatus will soon be upon us. But when they return, they’ll have a new member in their midst: Black Lightning. Originally developed for FOX, the series will join The CW roster on January 16th, taking DC’s Legends of Tomorrow post-Flash timeslot.
The series stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero raising his two daughters and working as the principle at a local charter high school. But when an old family foe return to pollute the streets with drugs and violence, he’s forced to become Black Lightning once more and protect his city.
Joining Cress are China Anne McClain and Nafessa Williams as his daughters Jennifer and Anissa Peirce, Christine Adams Jefferson’s ex-wife Lynn, James Remar as Jefferson’s best friend Peter, Damon Gupton as Inspector Henderson, and Marvin “Krondon” Jones III as Tobias Whale.
Legends of Tomorrow will take the month of January off, but according to Entertainment Weekly, it will return in February on a new night and time. Meanwhile, the rest of the DC superheroes will resume their seasons the week of January 15th.
Black Lightning comes to The CW on January 16th.
