In a bold move, Dark Horse have announced that they’ll be further curating Dave McKean’s work by presenting his short films in a collection of Blu-ray, included in a 9 ½” x 11″ hardcover book featuring photos, posters, stills, drawings, and more.
McKean, whose long tenure on Sandman covers gained him international notoriety, as well as his film and book with Neil Gaiman, Mirrormask, has also produced the longform comic narratives Cages and Eisner Award-nominated graphic novel Black Dog: The Dreams of Paul Nash.
His short films have often had a close relationship with his comics, and their surreal content is quite haunting.
Terry Gilliam enthuses about McKean’s work:
Dave demands his characters agonize over the meaning of life but he forces us to take the rollercoaster ride as well . . . right to the heart of the creative process—his words and drawings cascading across the page in a perfectly structured cacophony. Beautiful!
