When Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) and Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) left the fold on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., there were many tears and drinks raised as the characters — and the actors — faced an uncertain future in a potential spinoff called Marvel’s Most Wanted. ABC passed on the series and though it seemed they could be easily reintegrated into the S.H.I.E.L.D. fold, the characters vanished into their disavowed limbo.
But Hunter returns in this week’s episode and as Blood tells TVLine, he has a pretty good idea where the Most Wanted duo have been in the years since their departure. “He’s been up his usual tricks, doing some mercenary work and bickering with Bobbi,” he theorized. “He doesn’t necessarily have access to all the bells-and-whistles and gadgetry that S.H.I.E.L.D. did, so he has to use his charm and his wit to break down doors, and call in a few favors from his dodgy friends — who at times are quite unreliable!”
With Palicki on FOX’s The Orville, Blood returns to the series as a solo act for the episode, though he said he imagines Hunter’s return to save Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) probably coincides with one of the couple’s “tiffs,” adding “they each have a little bit of time and space to think until the situation calms down.”
Had Marvel’s Most Wanted made it to series, it would have seen Hunter and Morse teaming up with adventurer Dominic Fortune (Delroy Lindo) while trying to clear their names after S.H.I.E.L.D. was forced to disavow them. While Blood and Palicki had plenty of chemistry, it is easy to see why the network passed on the series: it was far too similar to S.H.I.E.L.D., which also featured a group of disavowed agents trying to clear their name at the time. And considering the dubious legal situation Fitz will be in when Hunter finds him, that similarity would always be thee.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Fridays on ABC.
