Deadline reports that The Walking Dead‘s Cooper Andrews has joined the cast of Warner Bros. and New Line’s comic book adaptation of Shazam!
Based on the Captain Marvel created by Bill Parker and C.C Beck in Whiz Comics #2, the film centers on a young boy named Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who is given a magic word which transforms him into the world’s mightiest mortal (Zachary Levi). Gifted with the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury, Billy will face a tough road being a child and a superpowered man all at once.
But perhaps Andrews’s character, a foster parent at Billy’s group, will offer some support. Then again, foster parents are rarely good people in popular fiction.
Besides Andrews, Angel and Levi, the film will also feature Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freemore and Grace Fulton as another friend of Billy’s who may very well turn out to be fellow superhero Mary Marvel.
Shazam! opens on April 5th, 2019.
