Following in the footsteps of the success of Mech Cadet Yu, which also started as a limited series and graduated to an ongoing series at Boom! Studios, Fence has leveled up to ongoing due to its popularity. Like Mech Cadet Yu, it will also be getting an early release “Discover Now” edition trade containing the first four issues, exclusive to retail shops, which will land in April.
Written by novelist C.S. Pacat (Captive Prince) and drawn by popular online artist Johanna The Mad, Fence will move to ongoing series beginning with April’s issue #5.
Fence mixes a lot of genre elements and expectations, drawing as much from teen soap opera traditions as sports narratives, since it’s set in the world of competitive fencing.
On the same day as issue #5 arrives in April, fans will also be able to pick up the Fence Vol. 1 Discover Now Edition containing the first four issues. This comic shops exclusive early trade will feature a cover by Dream Daddy artist Shanen Pae, and retail at $9.99.
C.S. Pascat says:
Thanks to everyone who supported the comic and gave us this incredible chance! I’m so thrilled we’ll be able to continue the story. Here’s to us aiming for the state fencing championships together with the cast of FENCE!
Johanna the Mad adds:
This is so exciting! I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have planned for the future of FENCE.
A full trade of the series with issues #1-4 as a “standard” edition will also be released in July, featuring a different cover and including additional behind-the-scenes material.
The “Discover Now” edition, however, will not be reprinted again, so you’ll have one chance in April to pick it up and support your LCS.
