Despite earlier claims that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would run interrupted after the two-week winter break, it is getting an unexpected furlough for February.
As confirmed by comicbook.com, the series will go on a brief hiatus after this Friday’s episode and return one month later on March 2nd with the eleventh episode of the season and the 99th episode overall. The 100th episode, which may include the team getting back to the present, will air the following week on March 9th.
The site suspects the pause is due in part to the Winter Olympic Games NBC will air in the coming month and an anticipated decline in viewership during the period. And as a matter of history, S.H.I.E.L.D. has often gone dark during the winter months to accommodate other shows, like Agent Carter or special ABC scheduling plans.
In its fifth season, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has found its core characters stuck 90 years in the future, where they learn Daisy (Chloe Bennet) may have shatter the Earth, leading to the Kree invading the remaining habitable segment and dominating the population. It also seems Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) ultimately invited the aliens despite remembering her time in the future. Will they be able to change history and prevent the destruction of the Earth? The answer will be delayed by one month.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Fridays on ABC.
