Happy! Renewed For A Second Season At Syfy

It’s a (late) Christmas miracle for Happy! as its future on Syfy has been secured.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the series will return for a second season on the cable channel. Based on the comic book by Grant Morrison and Darrick Robertson, the series centers on Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni), a disgraced ex-cop turned hitman with a number of targets on his back, a little girl to save and a cartoon donkey named Happy (Patton Oswalt) helping him with his quest.

Morrison wrote the pilot and serves as an executive producer along with Crank co-director Brian Taylor and showrunner Patrick Macmanus. The show quickly took several departures from book, as a completely faithful reproduction would not lend itself well to a continuing series. It nonetheless captured the imagination of viewers with its insane mix of Morrison and Taylor ideas. In a statement, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment President of Entertainment Networks Chris McCumber said, “If people thought this season was crazy – I can’t wait for fans to see what Grant Morrison, Brian Taylor and the entire cast and crew have in store for Sax and Happy!”

Happy airs Wednesdays on Syfy, with the season finale scheduled for this week.
