Dark Horse Acquires Rights To Publish Disney’s Frozen Comics And More

Dark Horse Comics have announced some major news–that they’ve acquired the rights to publish comics based on Disney’s Frozen film. An initial three-issue miniseries will drop this August called Disney: Frozen.

Disney Zootopia Comics and Disney DuckTales: Treasure Trove writer Joe Caramagna (whose aforementioned comics are published by Joe Books and IDW respectively) and artists from the Kawaii Creative Studio both return to bring some fan-favorite Disney characters to the world of comics. We understand that the license was previously held by Joe Books.

Disney: Frozen #1 will feature Queen Elsa and Princess Anna investigating a disruption in the peace of their kingdom. There’s a “wild animal loose in the village, destruction in the forest, and unrest brewing in a nearby kingdom”. We’ll also see the arrival of a “mysterious, adventurous young woman” to help keep the peace.

Mike Richardson, Dark Horse president and founder says:

We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Disney on this great project. Frozen has legions of fans, many of whom are here at Dark Horse. I’ve personally enjoyed repeated viewings with my granddaughter, and I look forward to sharing this new series with her.

The first issue of Disney: Frozen is scheduled for a Summer 2018 release.

Interestingly, we have news that Dark Horse and Disney will announce additional comics in the coming months. Could they be further titles no longer with Joe Books?
