Lady Eve Calls Out Tobias For Lying On His Resume In Black Lightning Clip

by Erik Amaya

Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon James III) will soon face the wrath of Lady Eve (Jill Scott). At least, that seems to be the implication in this clip from tonight’s episode of Black Lightning. Summoned to Eve’s mortuary, she makes it very clear that the return of Black Lightning (Cress Williams) reflects poorly on him. She also makes it clear that while he is in charge of the 100, he’s not really the boss. He answers to the collective she represents.

And it is that group that I’m curious about. In the comics, Lady Eve has ties to Kobra, the troublesome cult who made their presence known in almost every title DC Comics published in the 1990s. But Jeffrey Burr, the group’s original leader, seems like an ill-fit for the more realistic inner-city the show is trying to present. I suppose Kobra could be scrubbed clean of its snake costumes and even its name to give the secret cabal of weapons makers and drug manufactures supplying Freeland with a convenient catch-all concept for the next step above the street.

Also, did you catch the reference to Tobias’s past? That gives credence to the theory that Jeff thinks Tobias died nine years ago. Will he learn the truth tonight?

Black Lightning airs Tuesdays on The CW.
