The Big O
Noir, mecha, mystery–The Big O combines so many elements that the plot eventually gets away from itself. By far one of the most stylish anime that incorporates the best of East meets West. If not a direct reboot, I’d love to see a spiritual successor because we need more noir and spy anime.
Murder Princess is unique in that the show’s fantasy world is secretly a futuristic society after an apocalypse. All of the magic and monsters are really technology from the old world. That premise alone is worth revisiting but with a bigger animation budget. The characters are also charismatic, from the trash-talking princess Alita to the ruthless Lolita supervillians.
Magical Witch Punie-Chan
Just watch the video above and you’ll know why I want more Magical Witch Punie-Chan. An action-comedy about an evil magical girl who’s trying to take over the world–this is a concept that deserves more than its meager four episodes. There are tonal overlaps between this show and Murder Princess, so I would love to see the two creators team up to do a spiritual successor.
Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt
Panty and Stocking should be revisited simply because of its unique art style. It’s clearly aimed a Western audience and I’d say they hit the nail on the head. The art reminds me of cartoons from Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon in the early 2000’s. If there were to be a reboot, I’d want them to keep the kickass fights and lose the potty humor. The show itself is nothing special but I’d love to see an original anime with the same art direction as Panty and Stocking.
