Betty Buckley Joins Preacher As Jesse’s Gran’ma; Other Angelville Characters Announced

Preacher really couldn’t avoid this story any longer. In Season 3, audiences will finally meet Gran’ma.

According to AMC’s official blog, Betty Buckley of The HappeningSplit and TV’s Eight is Enough will play Jesse’s (Dominic Cooper) grandmother in the third season of Preacher. The site describes her as “a spiritist with true powers, who can cast spells and even bring back the dead (for a price). Pay the fee or pay with your soul to feed Gran’ma’s thirst for eternal youth. She is weathered, tough, and mean, but also intelligent beyond measure. She’s Jesse’s only living family and she loves him.” Of course her love comes with a fairly disapproving glance over toward Tulip (Ruth Negga).

Aiding Gran’ma in all things around Angelville are Jody and TC; to be played by Jeremy Childs and Colin Cunningham. Jody is described as the only man Jesse has never beat in a fight while TC is the sort who will “gladly tell you about his perversions whether you ask him or not.” Definitely sounds like a Preacher character to me.

The blog post also mentions that Nashville‘s Liz McGeever will play Christina. Described as “capable and efficient,” she “has a face that lures customers in for her family business. Christina hides it well, but she hates her job and has dreams and aspirations outside of her current life – but suffers to protect her child.” Anyone familiar with the Preacher comic series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon will recognize that name immediately and the importance around Christina. Which make you wonder if the show will attempt to adapt one of the best single issues of Preacher or make sweeping alterations to the tale.

Preacher returns later this year.
