The Netflix series based on Archie Comics’ The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina continues to assemble its cast.
Deadline reports that Wonder Woman‘s Lucy Davis will play Sabrina’s (Kiernan Shipka) aunt Hilda Spellman, The site describes her as having a “motherly nature and warm sense of humor” while also possessing a “wicked, ghoulish streak” and that she is “as adept at brewing spite jars against her family’s enemies as she is at concocting love potions for the students at Baxter High.”
Of course, as readers of Sabrina over the years or fans of the ABC television series know, Sabrina has two aunts. Zelda, the less motherly of the pair, has not yet been cast.
Davis joins Shipka and other recently announced cast members like Doctor Who‘s Michelle Gomez, who will play Sabrina’s teacher Mary Wardell. While one of Sabrina’s favorite people, Ms. Wardell will reflect the main character’s dual nature as she is sometimes possessed by Madam Satan; who hopes to turn Sabrina toward the dark side. Chance Perdomo will also appear as Sabrina’s British cousin Ambrose. Jaz Sinclair was previously announced to play Sabrina’s best friend Rosalind Walker.
While creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted a photo of a script referring to the series by its comic book title, Netflix and industry papers still consider the series as untitled. It is unclear if Netflix will ultimately decide to use Chilling Adventures or go with something shorter and less pulpy.
It is also unclear when the series is expected to debut, but a late 2018 or early 2019 premiere seems likely.
