Miranda Otto Joins Sabrina Series As Aunt Zelda

by Erik Amaya

Miranda Otto has finally found a comic book TV home.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Otto will play Aunt Zelda in the currently untitled Sabrina The Teenage Witch series on Netflix. The actor joins Lucy Davis as one of two aunts raising Sabrina (Keirnan Shipka) as she navigates the difficult worlds of high school and witch training. Described as “proud and devout,” the character believes “there is no greater honor than serving the Dark Lord as a member of the Church of Night.” Despite being the face of discipline in Sabrina’s  life, she is said to be “fiercely protective” of her.

Despite being based on Archie Comics’ The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the series has yet to claim that title as its own. It may go for something simple or decide to commit to the pulpy name.

Otto previously starred in a FOX TV pilot based on Locke and Key which, sadly, never made it to series. Becoming Aunt Zelda represents her second brush with comic book properties.

The series is expected to air late this year or early in 2019.
