Netflix has a love affair with comics.
After buying Millarworld out-right and continuing to produce shows based on Marvel Comics characters, the streaming platform will welcome the Extreme Universe and Rob Liefeld into their fold.
Deadline reports Netflix and Liefeld have signed a “six figure deal” to develop the characters, which include the likes of Bloodstrike, Cybrid, Re-Gex, and Kaboom, into a series of interconnected films. Veteran screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (Batman and Robin, Lost in Space) will oversee the development of the projects by assembling a “high-end” writers room; just as he did for Hasbro and Paramount and their Transformers cinematic universe.
In a statement, Goldsman said “Rob is a unique and innovative talent who knows how to combine hard-edged comic book action with real emotionality. Netflix has the ambition, reach, and dedication to bring his universe to life.”
Goldsman’s recent foray into television have proved successful with Star Trek: Discovery finding a loyal fanbase and the earlier photos from Titans impressing fans with its accurate costumes for the Liefeld-designed Hawk and Dove.
It is currently unclear when the first of the Extreme Universe films will appear on Netflix, but with its dedication to original programing increasing, it may happen sooner than anyone would believe.
