A piece of a better timeline is finally joining our own.
In that other world, Nicolas Cage played Superman in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives. The film was a trainwreck of crazy ideas, Burton’s fascination with the 1930s Fleischer Superman animated shorts and Cage’s own unique interpretation of the character. And it is that performance which defined Superman for a generation to come.
But in our reality, Superman Lives died in development; a victim of competing egos and ideas. Nonetheless, tantalizing pictures of Cage in the supersuit eventually emerged and the documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened!? revealed just how strange and awe-inspiring the film would’ve been.
And now, according to USA Today, Cage will lend his voice to the Man of Steel in this summer’s Teen Titans GO! To The Movies. “We felt a great responsibility to find a voice for each character that would not only suit the role, but the playful tone of the Titans, and we’re thrilled with our cameo cast,” said executive producer Sam Register. Besides Cage, cameos include singer/songwriter Halsey as Wonder Woman and rapper Lil Yachty as Green Lantern.
The film itself brings the main Teen Titans GO! cast — Robin (Scott Menville), Cyborg (Khary Payton), Raven (Tara Strong), Starfire (Hynden Walch) and Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) — to Hollywood in hopes of bringing their exploits in crime-fighting and sandwich-making to the big screen. Hilarity ensues.
Teen Titans GO! To the Movies opens on July 27th.
