We’ve reviewed and talked about the comic American Gods on the site religiously (pun intended) because it’s fascinating to see this process of adaptation from Neil Gaiman’s novel through the lens of P. Craig Russell, Scott Hampton and Jennifer Anderson, and even the series’ cover artists Glenn Fabry and David Mack.
As the mythology built up in the first arc, so did the mysteries. If you’ve been reading the comic alongside watching the Starz TV show, you may be getting ahead of the show in interesting ways since Season Two just started filming. But the show has made no bones about the avenues they’re exploring for the characters that may well go beyond the book.
The comic is a pretty close adaptation and you’ll hear the tones of the original prose bleeding through through the hand lettering of Rick Parker.
Now the second arc of the series arrives from Dark Horse in American Gods: My Ainsel #1 landing today, the 14th of March 2018.
In this issue, Shadow and Wednesday leave the House on the Rock and continue their journey across the country where they “set up aliases, meet new gods, and prepare for war”.
