Drawn and Quarterly have released a special, expanded, hardcover edition of Craig Thompson’s Carnet de Voyage, including all-new epilogue material.
The creator of the graphic novel Blankets followed the success of that book with a tour across Europe and Morocco, and while promoting the various European editions of his book, and researching his next graphic novel Habibi, Thompson recorded his experiences in Carnet de Voyage.
Carnet de Voyage takes the form of a sketchbook diary of Thompson’s travels, wandering around Paris and Barcelona between events, navigating markets in Fez and “fleeing tourist traps” in Marrakesh.
Drawn and Quarterly say:
While desert landscapes and crowded street scenes flow across the pages, the sketchbook is packed first and foremost with people–other travelers passing through, the friends and lovers he meets along the way, distant figures of old friends and other cartoonists that freely weave in and out of Thompson’s subconscious.
This expanded edition includes a new epilogue drawn from Thompson’s most recent European book tour.
