Take A Look At Rod Serling’s Original Planet Of The Apes Adaptation

by James Ferguson

This August, Boom! Studios and 20th Century Fox Consumer Products are releasing a new original graphic novel adapting Rod Serling’s first screenplay for the classic 1968 film Planet of the Apes.

The comic, called Planet of the Apes: Visionaries, is part of the 20th Century Fox Uncovered collection. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the film, this first draft is being turned into a comic by Dana Gould and Chad Lewis. You can check out a first look at the book below.

The first Planet of the Apes film is an adaptation of the French novel La Planète des Singes. 20th Century Fox commissioned Rod Serling of The Twilight Zone fame to adapt it into a film, however his first draft was drastically revised before filming the version that the world has come to know and love.

Dafna Pleban, Senior Editor, Boom! Studios says:

Fans all over the world have wanted to experience Rod Serling’s original Planet of The Apes and this graphic novel is an incredible realization of that vision. Dana Gould and Chad Lewis have brought a new dimension to the story you only think you know, delivering a timely, ambitious and unflinching original graphic novel perfect for every reader, whether a long time fan or new to these characters.

Planet of the Apes: Visionaries is scheduled for release in August 2018 at your local comic shop, digitally through ComiXology, and through book stores and Amazon.
