In the run-up to the release of Deadpool 2, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) made no secret about his feelings on Green Lantern, the 2011 film starring Reynolds as a melange of Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner. The sequel also lobs a few jokes at the film’s expense while also targeting Reynolds filmography, the X-Men movies and a few Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks as well.
But being magnanimous in the face of Deadpool’s biting humor, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the distributor of Green Lantern in home video and streaming arenas, offered the following response via their Twitter account:

Reynolds responded in turn by suggesting a ring all parties involved should have used instead:
Well, if we’d used a NuvaRing™️ in the first place, we wouldn’t be in this mess. #deadpool2

The thread devolves from there thanks to pleas from Justice League fans to release the alleged Zack Snyder cut of the film. Nonetheless, the good-natured ribbing between Warner Bros. and Reynolds shows how to take a joke and tacitly admit that one your products is not as good as it could have been. But defining the flaws in Green Lantern is a task for another day. In the meantime, we’ll just say Deadpool’s jokes struck an appropriate nerve.
Deadpool 2 is out in theaters now.
