It seems the foundations under Sony’s Spider-Verse may already be crumbling.
According to the Exhibitor Relations Twitter account, Silver and Black, the Sony Pictures film based on Spider-Man characters Black Cat and Silver Sable, has lost its release date. No replacement date has been announced as the project has now fallen off the schedule.
It is unclear what brought this on. At last report, Cloak & Dagger pilot director Gina Prince-Bythewood signed on the helm the project, which was set for release on February 8th, 2019. It is possible she has left the project, pushing back the production schedule, or all parties — which includes Prince-Bythewood and producers Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach — have rejected the script by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet in favor of a completely new concept.
The film, should it emerge from development, will see the infamous cat burglar and the legendary mercenary team up to take on a truly dastardly opponent.
Or the delay is indicative of something more serious.
The project is one of two developed in recent years to capitalize on the characters Sony controls while Spider-Man spends his days in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first of these, Venom, is due out in October.
