While it seemed all was settled in regards to Reign (Odette Annable), it was just a charade put in place by Selena (Anjali Jay), head of the Dark Kryptonian witches — or whatever term Supergirl decides to use for them. As this preview of next week’s episode reveals, the Dark Kryptonians have made their way to Earth via J’onn’s (David Harewood) spaceship. And it seems Sam (also Annable) is not as safe from Reign as she thought.
I suppose it shouldn’t be a big shock that this is the way the story is going. In fact, last night’s episode felt like a lot of wheel-spinning (and ham-handed messaging) because the end of the season was not properly paced. Which is a shame for Supergirl, as it usually handles its messages and pacing with much better craftsmanship.
In fact, the whole Reign arc was pretty satisfying until this moment with her transparent “defeat” and the diversion to Argo City. Nevertheless, we are at one of the weakest places the show has ever been with a cheap love triangle, a poorly thought-out gun debate story and Chad Lowe returning again. With only two episodes remaining, I hope it still sticks the landing.
Supergirl airs Mondays on The CW.
