Yesterday, word broke that The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow actor Keiynan Lonsdale would not be returning to Legends as a series regular. Earlier today, Lonsdale took to Twitter to clarify his decision to step away from long-term commits to either show.

“It’s definitely not a total goodbye of ‘see ya never’ situation,” he wrote. “Wally West will still be around when you need him the most!” Instead, the actor wants to take an “unknown path” in his own life and expressed he is “so damn grateful to both shows for honouring & respecting that with me.”

The Greg Berlanti produced superhero shows have been supportive of its actors decisions to step away in the past. Over on Arrow, Katie Cassidy took a one year break from full-time status, but still appeared in a handful of season five episodes. Similarly, Willa Holland was allowed to take long leaves-of-absence while filming features. The understanding eventually led to her also deciding to leave the show on a more permanent basis, but one imagines guest appearances will also be in the cards for her.

Lonsdale is scheduled to appear in the Season 5 premiere of The Flash, which will no doubt establish where Wally is going on the next leg of his own personal journey — which often seems to mirror Lonsdale’s attempts to become a more truthful person and actor. No doubt we will also see him in the Fall’s crossover event, because how can it be a proper Arrowverse crossover without Wally West.
