Preview Viking Tale Sword Daughter #1, Out This Week From Brian Wood & Mack Chater

by Hannah Means Shannon

This week sees the release of the first issue of Viking-set tale Sword Daughter, which we’ve already grabbed from our LCS. Did you?

Published by Dark Horse, and created by the Briggs Land team of Brian Wood and Mack Chater, the ongoing comic series also features work by the stellar colorist Jose Villarubia, letterer Nate Piekos, and cover artist Greg Smallwood.

The story is said to be a tribute to “samurai cinema” but to pick up threads from Viking sagas, particularly family stories.

Dark Horse says:

In SWORD DAUGHTER, the Forty Swords arrive at night and, under the cover of darkness, murder an entire village. Only two people survive the slaughter: the infant Elsbeth and her grief-stricken father, Dag. Setting off on a revenge quest that will span the width of Viking Age Europe, they find the key to repairing their damaged relationship lies in the swords they carry.

Each issue of the first story arc of Sword Daughter will be oversized at 28 story pages, with variant covers by co-creator Chater.
