Jesse Rath Confirmed For Supergirl’s Season 4 As A Series Regular

Things are finally coming up Brainy.

Deadline reports Supergirl has added actor Jesse Rath to its cast on a permanent basis next season. Rath debuted this past season as fan favorite Legionnaire Brainiac 5. Boasting a 12-level intellect, Brainiac 5 traveled a thousand years into the his past with Mon-El (Chris Wood) and Saturn Girl (Amy Jackson) to end the threat of the Blight in their century by stopping it at its source: the 21st Century Worldkiller Pestilence (Angela Zhou). In doing so, the Legionnaires plan to return to the 31st Century, but Mon-El stayed behind. As seen in previews of Monday’s season finale, Brainy will also return to Supergirl’s (Melissa Benoist) present.

“We love the character of Brainiac 5 and can’t imagine anyone but Jesse Rath in the role,” said executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller in a statement. “He brings such fun, heart and brilliance to Brainy and we’re so excited he’s joining the cast as a series regular for season 4. We have a lot of great Brainy stories to tell.”

I’ll be honest, Brainy is one of my top 3 favorite comic book characters and I’m thrilled to see he will remain on the show. Though I’ve been critical of the change in the character’s skintone, I found Rath immediately got the part no matter the makeup. His subsequent appearance without blue skin cemented my belief that he was going to spend a lot of time on the show.

Supergirl returns in the Fall.
